Saturn Return Calculator
Most Saturn return calculators tell you it happens between twenty-seven and thirty. That is the orbital period, not your answer. Saturn crossed a specific degree when you were born, and it comes back to that degree on dates that can be computed exactly — sometimes three times, over the better part of a year.
The eight phases
Where a life sits in the lunar cycle, and what the tradition makes of each position.
aries
The reckoning is with self-assertion. Saturn in Aries makes starting things costly and finishing them the test — the return tends to arrive as a demand that you back your own initiative instead of waiting for permission.
taurus
The reckoning is with security. Saturn in Taurus ties self-worth to what can be held and counted, and the return usually forces a question about whether what you have accumulated is what you actually wanted.
gemini
The reckoning is with what you have said you would do. Saturn in Gemini scatters commitment across too many interests; the return arrives as a narrowing, often unwelcome and usually overdue.
cancer
The reckoning is with home and family obligation. Saturn in Cancer makes belonging conditional on duty, and the return tends to coincide with becoming the person other people rely on rather than the one relying.
leo
The reckoning is with recognition. Saturn in Leo withholds the audience until the work is genuinely good, and the return often lands as the end of performing a version of yourself you had outgrown.
virgo
The reckoning is with usefulness. Saturn in Virgo sets a standard nobody else asked for, and the return usually forces the question of who the exacting standard has actually been for.
libra
The reckoning is with partnership. Saturn in Libra is the placement of the serious relationship contract, and the return tends to formalise, redefine, or end one.
scorpio
The reckoning is with control and dependence. Saturn in Scorpio makes trust expensive, and the return usually surfaces whatever arrangement of power you have been quietly living inside.
sagittarius
The reckoning is with belief. Saturn in Sagittarius tests the philosophy you inherited against the life you have actually lived, and the return often coincides with abandoning or committing to it properly.
capricorn
The reckoning is with ambition, in Saturn's own sign. This is the placement that most straightforwardly asks whether the structure you built is one you would choose again — and the return is correspondingly blunt.
aquarius
The reckoning is with belonging to a group. Saturn's traditional sign before Uranus was found; the return tends to ask whether the community you stand slightly apart from is one you actually want to be inside.
pisces
The reckoning is with boundaries and escape. Saturn in Pisces struggles to draw a line between itself and everything else, and the return usually arrives as a demand for one.
Common questions
When is my Saturn return, exactly?
Your first falls between roughly twenty-seven and thirty, the second between fifty-seven and sixty, and the third around eighty-eight. Where you land inside those bands depends on where Saturn sat in your chart at birth, because Saturn's orbit is elliptical and it moves at different speeds through different parts of the zodiac. This calculator returns the actual dates rather than the band.
Why does my Saturn return have three dates?
Because Saturn turns retrograde for about four and a half months each year. If it crosses your natal degree shortly before stationing, it backs over that degree a second time and crosses it again going forward — three exact passes spread across eight to ten months. Roughly half of all returns work this way, and it is why people describe a Saturn return as a year rather than a day.
Do I need my birth time for a Saturn return?
No, and this is one of the few placements where that is genuinely true. Saturn covers about two arcminutes in a day, so a twelve-hour uncertainty moves the return date by hours. Compare that with the Moon, which changes sign every two and a half days, or the Ascendant, which changes every two hours.
What does a Saturn return actually do?
Traditionally it marks a reckoning with structure — the commitments, work and responsibilities you took on before you had chosen them deliberately. The first is described as an initiation into adulthood, the second as a passage into elderhood. Whether you find that meaningful is a separate question from whether the dates are correct; the dates are arithmetic.
Is the second Saturn return worse than the first?
Reports differ and there is no evidence either way. The common account is that the first is more disruptive because there is more still unbuilt, and the second is more reflective because it asks what to keep rather than what to become. The second also arrives at an age where other losses cluster, which colours it.
